Unit Converter
Convert length, weight, data, and more.
About Unit Converter
Unit conversion looks trivial until you are halfway through a recipe, a shipment calculation, or a disk sizing estimate and need three conversions in a row. This converter handles the everyday categories: length, weight, temperature, data size, speed, area, volume, and time. Type one value and two things happen at once: the chosen pair converts, and a table below shows the same value in every other unit in the category, so side-by-side comparison needs no extra clicks. Data sizes support both the binary convention that operating systems report, where a gigabyte is 1024 megabytes, and the decimal SI convention that drive manufacturers print on the box, where it is 1000. Temperature conversions handle the offset arithmetic that trips up mental math, and everything computes instantly as you type, with no submit button.
How to Use Unit Converter
Pick a category
Choose from Length, Weight, Temperature, Data size, Speed, Area, Volume, or Time. The unit dropdowns refill with the right set automatically.
Choose the from and to units
Set the unit you have and the unit you want. Sensible pairings are preselected, like Kilogram to Pound or Gigabyte to Megabyte.
Type the value
Enter any number, with or without decimals. The result updates as you type, and the table below shows the same value in every unit of the category.
Read the full table
When you are not sure which unit you need, skip the dropdowns and read across the table. It is the fastest way to compare, say, knots against kilometers per hour.
Why Use Unit Converter: Common Use Cases
Checking shipping and luggage limits
Airlines quote kilograms, luggage scales read pounds, and the table view settles both at once, including the stone unit some UK scales still use.
Sizing disks and bandwidth
Compare binary gigabytes, the kind an operating system reports, against SI gigabytes, the kind printed on packaging, and understand why a drive looks smaller than advertised.
Following recipes from abroad
Convert cups, fluid ounces, and milliliters in either direction, then check oven settings with the temperature category.
Reading foreign road signs and specs
Miles to kilometers, miles per hour to knots, feet to meters: everyday conversions that come up while traveling or reading international datasheets.

Tips for Unit Converter
The data size category shows both conventions on purpose: Kilobyte means 1024 bytes here, and Kilobyte (SI) means 1000, matching how storage vendors advertise.
Type numbers with commas or without; the input tolerates both. Scientific notation works too, which helps with very small or large measurements.
For timestamps, dates, and epoch values, use Timestamp Converter instead, since time zones need their own logic.
Precision is kept to ten significant digits, which is beyond what any kitchen scale or tape measure can justify. Do not round intermediate steps by hand.
Need a color unit instead of a physical one? Color Converter handles HEX, RGB, and HSL the same way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my 1 terabyte drive show as 931 gigabytes?
It does not. The drive has one trillion bytes, marketed as a terabyte using the decimal SI convention. Your operating system divides by 1024 instead of 1000, reporting about 931 binary gigabytes. The Data size category shows both conventions so the discrepancy stops being mysterious.
How are temperature conversions handled?
Unlike other categories, temperature has an offset as well as a scale, so the converter applies the full formula: Fahrenheit goes through the 32 degree and 9/5 factors, and Kelvin adds the 273.15 offset. Every pair is exact, not approximated.
Which definition of a mile is used?
The international statute mile of exactly 1609.344 meters, which is what road signs and maps mean. The nautical mile is listed separately at exactly 1852 meters for marine and aviation use.
Can I convert cooking measurements accurately?
Volume units include US cups, tablespoons, and fluid ounces with their exact US definitions. Be aware that Australian and UK tablespoon sizes differ from the US one, so check which convention a recipe uses.
Does the converter round or truncate?
Results keep up to ten significant digits and then drop trailing zeros for display. Nothing is truncated internally, so chaining calculations through the tool stays accurate.
Is there a way to convert one value to many units at once?
That is the default behavior. The all-units table below the result shows your value in every unit of the category simultaneously, so the comparison needs no extra clicks.
