One image, every favicon size.

About Favicon Generator

A favicon generator turns a single image into every icon size a website needs. Drop in a square logo and it produces a favicon.ico holding 16, 32, and 48 pixel versions, plus separate PNG files for 180, 192, and 512 pixels, which is what iOS home screens and installed web apps look for. You control the padding, the background, and whether the corners stay square, rounded, or circular. A ready-to-paste block of HTML link tags is generated from whatever sizes you select, so nothing has to be typed by hand. All rendering happens in your browser and the images are never uploaded.

How to Use Favicon Generator

1

Drop in your logo

Click Choose file or drag an image onto the drop area. A square PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result, but any image format your browser can read works.

2

Set padding, background, and corners

Drag Padding to leave breathing room around the logo. Pick Solid and choose a color if the icon needs an opaque plate, or keep Transparent. Use Corner to choose rounded, square, or circle.

3

Tick the sizes you need

The ICO 16, ICO 32, and ICO 48 chips feed the favicon.ico file. The PNG chips produce individual files, where 180 is the iOS home screen icon and 192 and 512 are the standard PWA sizes.

4

Download and copy the tags

Click Download all as ZIP for everything at once, or favicon.ico for the single combined file. Then click Copy next to the HTML snippet to paste the link tags into your page head.

Why Use Favicon Generator: Common Use Cases

Launching a new site

Add the icon files once and every browser tab, bookmark, and search result shows your mark instead of a default page glyph.

Making a Progressive Web App installable

The 192 and 512 pixel PNGs are the sizes the app manifest asks for, so the same generator covers the icons a PWA needs.

Fixing a blurry tab icon

If your existing icon looks soft or smeared, it was probably saved at one size only. Exporting 16, 32, and 48 separately gives the browser a sharp option for each display density.

Matching an iOS home screen icon

The 180 pixel apple-touch-icon with square corners and an opaque background matches what iOS expects when someone adds your site to their home screen.

Tips for Favicon Generator

  • Start from a square source. If your logo is wider than tall, run it through Resize Image first and pad the sides.

  • A logo with a photo background may look muddy at 16 pixels. Test it with Upscale Image or simplify it with Image Editor.

  • Want the icon without its corners baked in? Export square corners and trim the transparent area afterwards with Crop Image.

  • The ICO file stores each size as PNG data, which every browser released in the last decade reads. Very old builds may need a separate 16 pixel link tag instead.

  • Linking to another project and need a matching visual? Generate a QR code for the live URL with QR Code.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes should a favicon include?

A 16x16 file covers browser tabs, 32x32 covers most desktop bookmarks, and 48x48 covers Windows taskbar shortcuts. For mobile, add 180x180 for the iOS home screen and 192x192 and 512x512 for installed web apps. This generator produces all of them from one source image.

Why does my favicon look blurry at small sizes?

Because detail does not survive being scaled down to 16 pixels. Thin strokes, small text, and busy backgrounds turn into mush. A simpler mark with a solid fill, or extra padding so the shape occupies more of the square, makes the small size readable.

Should the favicon have a transparent background?

It depends on where it is used. Browser tabs on a dark interface look better with a transparent background, while a colored plate keeps the icon visible on any tab color. For the iOS home screen, iOS does not preserve transparency well, so a solid background is the safer choice there.

Is this favicon generator free with no sign-up?

Yes. There is no account and no limit on how many times you generate icons. Your image is drawn on a canvas inside your browser and downloaded from there, so the file never passes through our server.

What is the difference between favicon.ico and a PNG icon?

An ICO file packs several sizes into one file, which is what the classic link tag points at. A PNG is a single size. Modern practice is to keep both: the ICO for old browsers and tabs, and separate PNGs for touch screens and installed apps.

Can I use an SVG as my source logo?

Yes, as long as your browser can render it. SVGs that only define width and height without a viewBox may fail to load, so exporting to PNG first with SVG to PNG is a quick way to avoid that.
