About Document Scanner

A photograph of a paper form can include a desk, sloping edges, and uneven lighting. Document Scanner lets you mark the four document corners, correct the perspective, and adjust the appearance before saving a JPG or a single-page A4 PDF. You set the corners manually; the tool does not detect the page edges for you. Image processing and PDF creation happen in your browser. The result remains an image of the document, so review small print, signatures, and any colored marks before using the copy.

How to Use Document Scanner

1

Choose one document photo

Open a JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels. Choose a photo that includes all four corners of the paper. Large sources are reduced to a maximum of 2600 pixels on the longest edge for editing, so a sharper original helps but does not produce an unlimited-resolution scan.

2

Place the four corners clockwise

Move handle 1 to the top left, 2 to the top right, 3 to the bottom right, and 4 to the bottom left. Drag with a pointer or focus a handle and use the arrow keys. Hold Shift for larger movements. The X and Y percentage fields provide another keyboard method. Keep the outline around the paper without crossing its edges.

3

Choose the appearance and straighten

Select Color, Grayscale, or Black and white, then adjust Contrast. Black and white also provides a threshold control for deciding which tones become black. Reduce uneven lighting on white paper is optional and starts checked. The preview straightens and updates in real time as you adjust corners or settings. Inspect the live result before downloading.

4

Download the checked result

Save the processed image with Download JPG, or choose Download PDF for an A4 page containing that image. The PDF uses portrait or landscape orientation to match the output and centers it with a margin. Output is limited to 2200 pixels on the longest edge. Download before choosing another image or leaving the page.

Common Use Cases

Paper forms photographed at an angle

Use the four corners to isolate a form from its surroundings and make its edges rectangular. Perspective correction can make the page easier to read, but it cannot recover text hidden by fingers, folds, glare, or blur. Retake the photo when the source is unreadable. For several separate pages, save each PDF and combine them with Merge PDF.

Receipts and printed reference pages

Try grayscale for printed text or color when highlights and stamps carry information. Long receipts retain their corrected proportions; an A4 PDF fits the whole image on the page, which can make the text small. If you need selectable text after scanning, Image to Text provides a separate OCR workflow. Check the recognized text against the image.

Tips for Best Results

  • Photograph the paper against a contrasting surface with the whole page visible. Keep the camera as parallel to the paper as practical so the correction needs less stretching.

  • Turn lighting reduction off when scanning photographs, illustrations, or colored paper. The adjustment is intended for uneven illumination on white paper and can change those other backgrounds.

  • Increase the black and white threshold cautiously. Compare faint handwriting and thin lines with the source, since a clean-looking background can come at the cost of lost detail.

  • Use Reset corners to return the handles to their starting positions. Any corner or appearance adjustment refreshes the live scan preview immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the scanner find document corners automatically?

No. It starts with an inset rectangular outline, and you place all four corners yourself. The order is top left, top right, bottom right, then bottom left. An invalid or crossed outline needs correction before the perspective transform can produce a useful result.

Can I move the corners without dragging?

Yes. Tab to a numbered handle and use the arrow keys for small adjustments; Shift plus an arrow moves farther. You can also enter coordinates in the labeled X and Y percentage fields below the image. Both controls adjust the same corner positions.

Will lighting reduction remove every shadow?

No. It adjusts uneven illumination using the surrounding image brightness. It works best on white paper and cannot reconstruct text obscured by a dark shadow or reflection. Compare the preview with cleanup enabled and disabled, especially around shaded text and colored areas.

Does the downloaded PDF contain searchable text?

No. The PDF contains the processed JPG placed on one A4 page. It has no OCR text layer, editable form fields, or reconstructed document layout. Text extraction requires a separate OCR step, and recognition errors still need manual review.

Can I scan several photos into one PDF here?

This scanner processes one image at a time and exports one PDF page for that image. Download the first result before opening another photo. Combine the saved pages in a separate PDF merging tool if you need a document containing several scans.

Why is the saved scan smaller than my camera photo?

Editing uses an image no larger than 2600 pixels on its longest edge, and the corrected output is capped at 2200 pixels. These bounds limit browser processing work. A PDF changes the page container, but does not restore pixels removed during resizing or add detail to the scan.
